Banana Bread Brownies

Deliciously moist and fudgy banana bread brownies that blend the classic comfort of banana bread with the decadent richness of brownies.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 ripe bananas (mashed, about 2 cups)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (60 g) chopped walnuts (optional)
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 3 tablespoons milk (more if needed for spreading)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare a 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking pan.
  3. Mix the softened butter and granulated sugar until creamy; add eggs and mix well.
  4. Combine the ripe mashed bananas and sour cream (or yogurt) with the mixture, then stir in vanilla.
  5. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  6. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Add walnuts or chocolate chips if desired.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Let the brownies cool in the pan.
  9. Make the frosting by mixing softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
  10. Frost the cooled brownies evenly and slice to serve.

Notes

These brownies can be served plain or with ice cream. They can also be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
