Butter Paneer Rice Bake

A comforting and flavor-packed Butter Paneer Rice Bake, perfect for family dinners and gatherings.

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 block (8 ounces) paneer, cubed
  • ½ cup cream (or coconut milk)
  • Optional: chopped bell peppers, peas, spinach
  • Optional: shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  3. Add the rinsed rice, 1.5 cups water, and a pinch of salt to a pot and bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat, cover, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes until the water is absorbed.
  5. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  6. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  7. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  8. Sprinkle in the garam masala, cumin, and turmeric, stirring well.
  9. Incorporate the cubed paneer, folding it into the skillet and allowing it to absorb flavors.
  10. Pour in the cream and simmer until thickened.
  11. Combine the cooked rice with the paneer mix.
  12. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and top with cheese if desired.
  13. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until bubbly and golden brown.

Notes

Serve with a side of cucumber salad or warm naan for a complete meal. Feel free to customize with your favorite vegetables or spices.
