Creamy Chicken Orzo with Marsala

A comforting dish featuring creamy orzo pasta enriched with shredded chicken and Marsala wine, perfect for cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of orzo pasta
  • 2 cups of chicken broth
  • 1 cup of cooked chicken, shredded
  • 1/2 cup of Marsala wine
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Boil the Orzo: Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the orzo and cook according to package instructions (around 8–10 minutes) until al dente. Reserve a cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. Sauté the Aromatics: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent (about 4–5 minutes). Then, add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the Chicken and Marsala: Stir in the shredded cooked chicken and pour in the Marsala wine. Let it simmer for about 3–4 minutes, stirring to scrape the bottom of the pan.
  4. Pour in the Cream: Gradually add in the heavy cream, stirring until combined. Bring to a gentle simmer and reduce the heat.
  5. Combine Orzo and Sauce: Add the drained orzo to the creamy chicken mixture. Stir well to ensure the orzo is coated. Add reserved pasta water as needed for desired consistency.
  6. Season and Serve: Season with salt and pepper to taste and stir. Serve garnished with chopped parsley.

Notes

For variations, consider adding fresh spinach, sautéed mushrooms, or using shredded jackfruit for a plant-based option.
